Whether it's soothing sore muscles after a long day or easing tension with calming scents, making your own therapeutic whipped body butter is an accessible way to tap into your own little slice of natural wellness.

So, let's dive into the wonderful world of homemade skincare and discover how to make our very own therapeutic whipped body butter. Trust me, once you experience the joy of crafting something so indulgent and effective, you'll never want to go back to store-bought again!

Crafting Therapeutic Whipped Body Butter

To whip up a batch of luxurious body butter, start with a base of soft butter, like shea butter, and combine it with your preferred carrier oil in a ratio of 3 parts butter to 1 part oil or 2 parts butter to 1 part oil. The ratio will depend on your ambient room temperature and on the oils and butters that you choose to use, so you will need to do a little experimenting to get just the right blend for you.

Exploring Ingredients

Butters, sourced from seeds and nuts, are skincare treasures, providing deep moisture and therapeutic benefits. Cocoa butter brings richness and hydration, while shea butter is comforting and versatile, ideal for promoting overall skin health. Mango butter is deeply emollient, soothes dry skin, protects against the elements, and restores suppleness to mature skin. As for carrier oils, options abound—from the nourishing properties of olive oil and coconut oil to the gentle hydration of sweet almond oil and apricot kernel oil. For an extra therapeutic touch, consider incorporating herb-infused oils like trauma oil, infused with arnica, calendula, and St. John's wort for added pain relief benefits.

There are a variety of essential oils that can help with pain and inflammation, such as

  • lavender - relieves pain, reduces muscle spasms & cramps, helps with headache relief

Whipped Pain Butter (heat method)

For a more involved recipe, try the heat method. With a bit of practice, you'll discover that this technique yields a sumptuous butter that you'll thoroughly relish.

Ingredients
  • 8 Tbsp shea butter organic, preferably unrefined

  • 4 Tbsp coconut oil, preferably organic and unrefined

  • 10 drops of lavender essential oil

  • 10 drops of frankincense essential oil

  • 5 drops of juniper berry essential oil

  • 5 drops of myrrh essential oil

  • 1 tsp cornstarch or arrowroot powder - reduces the oiliness of the blend while adding softness and thickness to the final product

Directions
  1. Melt the coconut oil in a double boiler, then add the shea until they are both melted, keeping the heat at a minimum (shea butter is sensitive to heat)

  2. Pour into a mixing bowl and place into the freezer until the top layer is solid

  3. Use a spatula to scrape down the sides

  4. Use an immersion blender or hand mixer to blend

  5. Add in the essential oils and blend

  6. Add the cornstarch or arrowroot powder and blend

  7. If the cream starts to look oily and wet, place it back into the freezer until it thickens again, then continue blending

  8. Blend until you get the fluffy-whipped consistency you prefer. It will become thicker after sitting for several hours

Special Note: Always remember to clean up the bowl when you are finished, as the whipped body butter can closely resemble whipped frosting. It is essential to avoid any confusion and ensure that no one accidentally mistakes it for edible treats while you are out of the room.
