Rooted in Truth

How Natural Remedies Point to God's Unchanging Nature

The Nature of Truth in Christ

The Christian life is not a matter of personal preferences or shifting ideals, nor is it governed by the notion of "subjective truths." It is, instead, a life of surrender to the unyielding and eternal Truth—Jesus Christ. In a world that seeks to redefine reality according to its whims, we must stand firm in the knowledge that Truth is not fluid, nor is it shaped by human desire. Truth is fixed and immovable, grounded in the very nature of God. As Scripture declares, "I am the Lord, and there is no other; There is no God besides Me." (Isaiah 45:5). God is not a reflection of our wishes, nor is He our servant. He is the Creator of Heaven and Earth, the Designer of all things visible and invisible, and the Sustainer of life itself (Genesis 1, Psalm 146:6, Acts 17:24). From the tiniest seeds to the grandest mountains, all creation speaks to His glory and points back to Him.

The Illusion of Freedom Outside of God

However, society has embraced a dangerous illusion. There is a widespread belief that freedom can be found outside of God, in the ability to shape one’s own reality and determine one’s own truth. People seek to be their own gods, to define their existence according to their personal preferences and desires. This false notion of freedom, where truth is subjective and self-determined, leads only to chaos, emptiness, and ultimately enslavement to sin. But true freedom is not found in grasping at fleeting comforts or in the creation of our own realities. True freedom is found only in submitting to the eternal, unchanging Truth of the gospel, which declares that salvation is found in Christ alone.

The Only Way to True Life

In Him, we do not merely find a way to live—we find the Way. In Him, we discover joy that transcends all understanding, the joy that our restless hearts so desperately seek. To live in Christ is to surrender to the only Truth that has the power to save us. He alone is the remedy for all that ails us, and it is only in Him that we find the true life our souls were made to experience.

The Danger of a Subjective Truth

We live in a world where the very notion of truth has been twisted to serve the whims of human desire. The prevalent idea that truth is subjective, malleable, and shaped by personal preference has led many astray. But the reality is this: Truth, by its very nature, cannot bend or break to accommodate our whims. It excludes all that is false. If every person's subjective "truth" held equal weight, the order and harmony of creation—the glory of God so clearly proclaimed in Psalm 19:1—would dissolve into chaos. A world where each person is free to invent their own reality is a world without purpose, direction, or stability.

The True God Versus Man-Made Idols

To conceive of a god who merely aligns with our inclinations is not to worship the true God, but to craft a lifeless idol—a counterfeit shaped by our own hands. The true God is not subject to our imaginations; He is infinite, eternal, and unchangeable in His wisdom, power, and goodness. As He declares: "I am the First and I am the Last; Besides Me there is no God." (Isaiah 44:6). This is the God we serve—the Creator of all things, the One who holds all of creation in His hands, and the One to whom we must submit in humble obedience.

Acknowledging God's Sovereign Design

We are reminded in Psalm 146:6 that the Lord is the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them. This includes the plants, the herbs, and the oils that we often turn to for healing. These things do not exist apart from Him; they are part of His sovereign design. As we seek to care for our bodies and minds, we must remember that it is not these remedies themselves that offer true healing, but the God who created them.

Using Natural Remedies as Stewards of Creation

To turn from Him for a counterfeit is to turn away from the very source of life (John 14:6). Jesus Christ, the Way, the Truth, and the Life, is the only path to true freedom. As we turn to Him, we are reminded that all creation—the herbs and remedies that we use, the very earth beneath our feet—is part of His good and perfect design. These things are not to be worshiped in themselves, but they point us back to the Creator. When we use natural remedies, such as herbal oils and other resources from God's creation, we do so not as a means of controlling or mastering nature, but as a reminder that we are stewards of His creation.

A Life of Surrender to Truth

In all things—whether in our health, our relationships, or our pursuits—we must look to God’s Word for direction and truth. The Christian life is one of surrender to His wisdom, His guidance, and His authority. Only by submitting to His truth can we find peace, true healing, and the rest that our souls long for. For it is in Him, and only in Him, that we find life in abundance.

The Source of Life and Healing

If we seek healing through natural remedies, let us remember that these resources are not ends in themselves but reflections of God’s perfect design. Our true peace, healing, and rest are found not in the things of this world, but in the unchanging truth of His Word. By humbly embracing His guidance, we align our lives with His will, discovering the life in abundance that only He can provide.

It is God who heals; it is God who sustains. Let us humbly embrace His unchanging truth.
